In his unguarded emotional moment yesterday, an angry Murkomen revealed what he has all along thought about Uhuru. He thinks Uhuru couldn’t be anything today, not even an opposition leader, were it not for William Ruto and his lieutenants.
It is now too obvious that former Jubilee Senate Majority Leader, Kipchumba Murkomen never ever imagined that Uhuru was capable of dumping them so fast, while embracing “Mganga” Raila Odinga and his camp. What exasperates them even more is that life goes on normally, as if nothing happened!
Watching Murkomen throw tantrums and talk so bitterly about Uhuru on Citizen TV last night, it was clear that the man is still so naive politically. He has a lot to learn in terms of self-control and maturity, especially when talking in public. Politics abhors people who break down so easily, whenever push comes to shove.
One can understand where he is coming from, though. He’s visibly experiencing political betrayal for the first time. That is why he is behaving like a teenager going through the unbridled emotions of his/her first breakup, from the first love.
At his age, Murkomen should have known by now that betrayal is the currency of trade in Kenyan politics. It happens even in the church leadership wrangles, which are a common phenomenon in this country.
Murkomen let anger get the better of him and almost shed tears on TV! He sounded like a jilted lover, even more than his boss William Ruto, who should understandably be bitterer, since it is his political marriage with Uhuru that is officially over.
The other thing that was evident is that Murkomen is no longer sure whether what he feels for Raila Odinga is contempt, hate, love or admiration. He finally admitted that Raila is not the source of William Ruto’s current political woes, and blamed Uhuru for everything that is happening to Ruto.
Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) Reacted Humorously.
Kenyans on Twitter were quick to note Murkomen’s new approach. One popular Twitter user Abraham Mutai had this to say:
Lord Abraham Mutai@ItsMutai· I must congratulate MURKOMEN. For the first time since the handshake he did not attack Uhuru through Raila, he took him head on. Now that’s being honest, sincere, truthful. Kenyans deserve Honesty. It shouldn’t have taken 2 yrs to realize their war is with Uhuru NOT Raila
Ruto and his men obviously underestimated Uhuru and he deliberately led them on to think that he was a weak, carefree man, who was actually disinterested in the presidency.
In his unguarded emotional moment yesterday, an angry Murkomen revealed what he has all along thought about Uhuru. He thinks Uhuru couldn’t be anything today, not even a village elder, were it not for William Ruto and his lieutenants.
Many Kenyans were shocked by Murkomen’s sentiments about his Jubilee boss, Uhuru Kenyatta. Another popular Twitter user Gabriel Oguda had this to say about it:
Gabriel Oguda@gabrieloguda Kipchumba Murkomen has just said that without William Ruto, Uhuru Kenyatta would never even had been an opposition leader. The guy just put Uhuru in the same bracket as Ekuru Aukot who received 21,333 votes. Jesus Christ of Kapsowar… 10:50 PM · Sep 2, 2020· Twitter for Android
This might explain why Murkomen and company thought that Uhuru was their equal, or even their puppet. Power, in its true nature, is hierarchical and it must always remain so. Any upset in its hierarchical equilibrium has consequences. It is obvious that the power hierarchy Jubilee was fast getting blurred at the top and this was bound to end badly.
There should always be some respectable social distance from the president, even when you think you are the greatest of friends with him or her. It is now obvious that the Ruto camp regarded Uhuru as a lame-duck president, who was holding brief for the real president-in-waiting. This was none other than their man Dr. William Samoei Arap Ruto.
It is said that at some point, they even boasted that their man was running the country while the real boss was busy immersed in his favourite tipple. To their chagrin, the man they considered weak pulled a fast one on them and now they can’t stop crying foul! They are clearly unsure of their next political move.
Is It Time For Ruto And His Brigade To Leave Government En Masse?
The Jubilee government needs to work for Kenyans and avoid sideshows. From where I sit, perhaps time is now ripe for Ruto and his men to leave government en masse and prove their political mettle from outside government, instead of treating us to drama after drama. .
That is what political leaders who believe in themselves do!
That is what the original doyen of opposition politics in Kenya Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga did when he fell out with his boss Jomo Kenyatta in the 1960s…
That is exactly what Jaramogi’s son, Raila Odinga, did several years later (in 2002) when Moi side-lined him and other senior politicians in KANU, handing the party’s presidential ticket to a then political greenhorn- Uhuru Kenyatta.
