HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE DOUBTED GOD’S PROMISES EVEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER HE HAS REVEALED HIMSELF TO US IN A MIGHTY WAY?
Nobody illustrates this situation better in the Bible than Prophet Elijah. In the book of 1 Kings 18, we see a triumphant Elijah who has unwavering faith in God when he triumphs over the prophets of Baal on Mount Camel. He even mocks them when their god fails to send a fire down to burn their offering; after they pray from morning to noon . “27 It came about at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, “Call out with a loud voice, for he is a god; either he is occupied or gone aside, or is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and needs to be awakened.”
But when Elijah prayed, he just said, “…O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and I have done all these things at Your word. 37″Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that You, O LORD, are God, and that You have turned their heart back again.”…
And immediately he finished praying, a fire came down and consumed not only the pieces of oxen that had been cut up for offering, but also the water that had been poured on and around the offering! Elijah then goes ahead to round up and slay all the 450 prophets of Baal.
When Ahab told Jezebel what had happened, She sent a messenger to Elijah and she had this to say: ” 19:2…So may the gods do to me and even more, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.”…
It is very interesting that in chapter 19 we see a very frightened Elijah, hiding in a cave far away in the wilderness, while running away from Jezebel! How come that Elijah forgot so fast what God had done on that day? But what catches my attention most is the question that God asks him and maybe, He is asking each one of us today: ” 19:9 Then he came there to a cave and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
THE BIG QUESTION TODAY IS: IN WHICH CAVE ARE YOU HIDING AFTER YOUR MOMENT OF DOUBTING GOD’S CAPABILITY? THE LORD IS ASKING YOU A QUESTION AND YOU NEED TO ANSWER IT. WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THAT CAVE?
